When entering a search for someone with a hyphenated last name, the last name should be entered without a hyphen as one continuous name, rather than two names. Do not use a space when entering the continuous names.
SMITH-JONES should be entered as SMITHJONES, not either SMITH-JONES or SMITH JONES. This method of entering hyphenated names will provide the greatest opportunity of getting a match against the records in the database.
If SMITH-JONES is a married name where the maiden names was SMITH, you may also wish to conduct alias names searches on both SMITH and JONES. The information in the database depends on how arrest information is submitted. If arrest information was submitted using JONES as the last name, a search for SMITH or SMITHJONES will not return the record unless there is a match on another identifier, such as social security number.
