Access to Criminal History Information

The Wisconsin Legislature has determined that all adult criminal history information in the State of Wisconsin is public record.  The only access restriction requires payment of those fees imposed by the Legislature for access to the information in the criminal history database.

The Legislature has only provided for release of information from the database on a per individual basis.  No provision has been made for an individual to obtain the entire database, either in its entirety or as it is updated.

Juvenile information is protected in Wisconsin and available only to those persons or entities authorized by law.  Release of juvenile information or sharing of juvenile information by those legally authorized to obtain such information is prohibited.

Each state has laws regulating release of criminal history information.  Information for each state may be found at www.doj.state.wi.us/dles/cib/sclist.asp
